Accession, a new work by Malcolm Atkins
‘Accession’ has been devised as a comment on the EU accession state
process as reflected in the Evolving City programme of events scheduled for
this year in Oxford. It employs scored and improvised work as well as
references to anthems and tunes from the new and recent accession states. Much
of the structure of the work is derived from Bartok’s version of the Bluebeard
myth – an archetypal accession story.
It featured the
following performers (amongst others): Clair Aldington, Nick Benda, Sarah
Vierney Caird, Miles Doubleday, Jill Elliott, Julian Faultless, Bruno
Guastalla, Chris Hills, Dominic Lash, Pete McPhail, Chris Stubbs, Roger
Telford, Pat Thomas, Dave Trussler.
Graphics for the score
were supplied by Dawn Scarfe.
The
concert also featured a solo
improvisation by G.P. Hall (guitar) and a performance of Stockhausen’s
In Freundschaft by Julian Faultless (French
Horn).
